I have been photographing these girls pretty much since they were born. Mainly because they are my nieces but mostly because I love them so so much! Plus, I find joy in being able to capture the softer more feminine side of childhood. Especially since I’m surrounded by trains, footballs, and grubby, muddy little boy hands and most of my days consist of breaking up brawls and the never-ending dog pile.
But these girls. Sigh. They allow a softer side to shine through.
They are sugar and spice and most all things nice, everything little girls should be. Each of them are fiercely determined and amazingly independent. They are a force to be reckoned with and no doubt will move mountains one day.
During the shoot I was reminded how important it is to allow them to move at their own pace, to let their natural beauty shine through. The littlest miss had a mind of her own and absolutely did not want to be posed. So we let her walk to her own beat while I followed close by to capture her in her own little element.
And when that wasn’t working for her I resorted to grabbing some snaps of the two older girlies.
They are sweetness and my heart loves them so.
And this one, I saw a lot of this during the shoot…but gotta admit…. her walking away, that pony tail, she still gives me all the heart eyes!
