I happened to meet Serena through a photography workshop we were doing online. We realized we lived not only in the same state but the same city! Immediately we just knew we needed to get together and take turns capturing us with our babies. I can’t even begin to explain just how important community is as a photographer. While we work with many different people, it can actually be an isolating and an extremely competitive profession. It’s easy to knit pick and find all the talent in others and at the same time lose sight of your own beautiful art. Just as it takes a village to raise up babies, I feel it takes a community to nurture the heart of a photographer. It fills my heart up when I find those that have just as deep of a passion and too, value building a strong, positive community. Serena is all that and a bag of chips. Truly she is. Since getting to know her and realizing we lived in the same city–her husband accepted a job offer and they have had to move about 5 hours away… and my heart is still sad over it. But at least we have made plans to swap family photos and I will get to see her and her darling girl again!
Serena, Bend better be treating you really well….Vancouver misses you!
