Sweet Finley (Portland, Or newborn photographer)

Once upon a time I wasn’t so sure I was cut out to do newborns. I absolutely love love LOVE the newborn stage and melt every time I see those fresh-faced babes. However, I just never felt like I was being myself trying to do all the wraps, accessories and adorable posed poses. After going through a bit of an educational course on lifestyle newborn sessions….you guys, I fell in love. Like, I get giddy excited when someone inquires about doing one of these types of sessions. I try to be very clear in explaining, if you are wanting props and composite poses with all the frills and stuff, then I’m probably not the photographer for you. (If you would like some recommendations, I personally know photographers that do A-mazing work and clearly have a special heart (and patience) for doing those beautiful posed shots)

But if you want to dig into the natural, unposed….nothing but the parent’s breathing in the scent of their new baby kind of session. I’m your gal. I love to catch that raw emotion, the wonder and amazement of the tiny human that now makes up a family. I find beauty in the way a dad’s big, strong hands cradle those soft, fuzzy heads. How the mom kisses the rosy cheeks and stares at all the itty bitty features, and then she smiles again, because she is reminded that, she made this. She brought forth this life that has captivated hers. (Be prepared, I have even more of these types of

All the little details, that is what I love.

This session, encompassed all of that and more. I had never met her parents before, but they were the sweetest! We had to reschedule because my boy’s basically caught the bubonic plague (hand, foot, and mouth disease) as well as a tummy bug– we were a hot mess. They graciously went with the flow without skipping a beat. And then welcomed me into their beautiful home to capture their little ray of sunshine.

Goodness, Miss Finley was sweet! She was super hungry the day of the shoot—I don’t blame her, all that looking pretty for the camera, it tends to help work up the appetite. But you guys, my favorite part of this session was watching how gently and lovingly her parents took care of her. They were so in tune with whatever she needed almost before she needed it. You could tell that she was thriving under their love and care. And that is beyond beautiful. That is why I love my job, I get to capture that for them so they can see it for themselves.

Miss Finley, thank you for making your parents–parents. They were made for this.
